Manuel Alum's dance career spanned over 25 years and 50 choreographies. I had the opportunity, when I was younger, to dance in his striking choreography, Palomas, and experience his artistry and the spirituality, architecture, and power of his choreography. We had dance lofts that were near each other and I felt privileged to be with him at the end of his life. In 1997, as part of a play called Pathways, I wrote a monologue to honor my time with Manuel. The monologue, Manuel, is danced and spoken to the music of Puccini's Chrysanthemums and is available on my website, www.margaretbeals.org under the Performance tab.
